Why Planning A Backpacking Trip Is So Sssential?

Even if you are a seasoned backpacker and traveller and are one of the best camping fans, it is still essential that you take time to plan your backpacking trip.

As you are entering unfamiliar territory, things are bound to go wrong. While this in itself can end up being a fun and thrilling experience, it can unfortunately also end up being dangerous and scary. However, planning can help you to prevent such situations from becoming scary.
Below are some things that you should consider for a backpacking trip.

1.Weather

Research the weather of the area extensively and analyse the high’s and low’s. Carry clothing which will be conducive to the area in which you will be staying.

2.Water sources

Many places of the world have water sources which are not safe to drink. Definitely do research on the water sources in the area. If it is not safe to consume, it is advisable that you buy stock of water to take with you.

3.Safety of the area

While some people consider themselves thrill seekers and like to be in unfamiliar territory, it is wize to always do research on the area that you are visiting. Unfortunately sometimes, the safety hazards of the areas simply make it not worthwhile to visit as the risk of serious injury or being a victim of crime could be too high. I live in South Africa and even though I have been born and raised here, there are some areas which I will just not visit as the risk of being a victim of crime is too high.

4.Evacuation plan

Unfortunately sometimes things do go wrong and while you want to ideally be in your backpacking location for the ideal amount of time, there is always a chance that things could go wrong for unexpected reasons and you may have to get home sooner than expected. If this is the case, then you should have plans in place to make the process easier. If a trusted or loved one details of the duration of your trip (the start date and finish date as well as location dates).

5.Human waste management

Especially for the best camping fans, taking care of your own waste is very important. Different rules will apply to your waste depending on the location. In some areas which are vulnerable to the effects of pollution, human waste can have toxic effects on the local ecosystem. The desert for instance is a very delicate environment and so a lot of backpacking destinations will require that you pack away all human waste.

6.Fauna and Flora of the area

The animals and plants which are found in the area will influence the clothing and gear which you will have to wear and take on the trip. For instance, if the area is laden with insects, it is advisable that the best camping fans use nets to sleep. This will not only ensure that they have a comfortable sleep, but also potentially protect them from painful bites and malaria.
